One-hundred Mellowtrons were made. They were created to do robot things like clean, assist, and help out around the house. Unlike other robots, Mellowtron was built to be more mellow and laid back. Cold robotic machines were going out of style, so easy-going Mellowtron was the first of his kind.
The launch of the new robot, Mellowtron, was a huge success, and, at first, everyone loved that he was a mellow, creative, somewhat sad, but lovable robot. Yet, all of the Mellowtrons were utterly confused as to what was expected of them. Were they supposed to do the robotic jobs their owners assigned them, or was Mellowtron supposed to dream all day, like he had been built to do?
Mellowtron's imagination was so vivid he often confused his made up world with reality. His unique personality was not appreciated by his owners, who couldn't believe that imagination was part of a robots job. The owners complained, "Mellowtron has no purpose if he can't perform 'normal' robot duties!"
In one week, all 100 Mellowtrons were returned to the stores, sent to an abandoned warehouse, and left with only dreams of the outside world. Even though Mellowtron may not have the right qualities to be a helper bot, maybe he could be used for something else? All of the Mellowtrons are waiting anxiously for someone to rescue them from their warehouse of sadness.
